Tarang: A New Beginning

25 Oct 2014 | 13:00 until 15:00
The Capstone Theatre
Tarang is an ensemble of up and coming artists whose unique style is the result of a blend of classical Indian musical traditions with global influences. Performing on instruments from across the Indian Sub-Continent, the group combines the Carnatic (southern) and Hindustani (northern) styles of Indian music with a Western approach, to create a genre that represents Indian culture in Britain.
In this 10th anniversary concert tour, the ensemble reflects on its roots in both the Western and Indian folk traditions, performing a programme of their own interpretations of traditional ragas alongside new compositions. Exploring uplifting themes of nature, emotion and spirit, the ensemble performs powerful works by Girishh Gopalakrishnan, Pandit Ranajit Sengupta and Anil Srinivasan, as well as music inspired by Pandit Ravi Shankar and Lalgudi Jayaraman.
