The piano, an instrument rarely heard in Indian classical music, is given a Carnatic make-over and heard alongside the haunting and emotive sounds of the bamboo flute in this beautiful and unique concert. Following their debut UK concert at the Indika festival in 2013, two of India’s highly acclaimed and brilliant musicians, pianist Anil Srinivasan and flautist Rakesh Chaurasia present their unique jugalbhandi (duet) of piano and bansuri. They will be joined by world renowned tabla maestro, Kousic Sen.

Rakesh Chaurasia stormed on to the Indian music scene as a child prodigy under the guidance of his uncle, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. The most accomplished of his disciples, Rakesh shows all the promise to carry the Chaurasia legacy to brilliant new heights. Rakesh is an experienced collaborator, and has recorded and performed music with several ensembles.

Anil Srinivasan is a musician, innovator and educator, dedicated to the development of classical Indian music for a contemporary audience. In his endeavour to define a new aesthetic he has utilised the piano to create a frame for music, a new concept for classical Carnatic music.

Kousic Sen is a versatile and popular tabla artiste. He is a specialist in Carnatic-Hindustani collaboration, and has contributed to many highly successful cross-genre projects. He is the Percussion Conductor for Samyo, The National Youth Orchestra for Indian Music, and tabla teacher at Milapfest’s school for Indian Arts, Arts School.

“Rakesh possesses the right balance of strength and serenity, very critical factors for an exceptional flautist”. The Hindu
