The Southbank Centre

Celebrating the fascinating sound of British Indian classical music, this concert features a host of professional and emerging artists living in Britain, including the performers of Rasikapriyas*, The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan*, Samyo* and The Rhythm Yatra ensemble*.

The concert also celebrates the work of Dharambir Singh and Mehboob Nadeem and features a host of acclaimed percussionists, including Kousic Sen, Bangalore Prathap, RN Prakash and Upneet Dhadyalla, as well as up-and-coming artists Roopa Panesar, Raaheel Husain, Jessica Mistry and Akash Patel.

A Gharana is a particular style of teaching and performance in Indian classical music, which might be followed by generations of families or groups. With immigration to Britain and the influx of superb Indian music artists, Britain is now home to a unique new Gharana that reflects contemporary British culture and audiences today.

The Great British Gharana is a celebration and showcase of some of Britain’s best Indian music talents, and features six different ensembles of North Indian and South Indian melody and rhythm, in the first ever concert event of its kind.

Rasikapriyas – Conducted by Somusundara Desigar
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan ensemble  – Conducted by Sivasakthi Sivanesan
