Youth Music

Youth MusicIn 2002, Milapfest and Youth Music partnered to set up the UK's first ever national South Asian Music Youth Orchestra (Samyo). The two organisations worked together to create regular, high profile performance and training opportunities for young musicians previously unsupported beyond a certain level. Samyo is now one of nine NYMOs (National Youth Music Organisations) supported by the national charity. "Youth Music is the UK's largest children's music charity, set up in 1999 to promote and support music making opportunities and to provide advice to children from birth - 18 with the least access, including some of the UK's most disadvantaged young people. Youth Music works alongside the formal and community-based sectors to support music-making and training." From www.youthmusic.org.uk

Liverpool Hope University

Liverpool Hope UniversityLiverpool Hope's Cornerstone is a vibrant arts campus with around 1000 undergraduate and postgraduate students following programmes in Fine Art, Design, Music, Drama and Dance related areas. Every year, as a venue, the Cornerstone plays host to a diverse range of arts and conference events. It is the main home of the RLPO's Contemporary Music Ensemble 10/10 and, over the last five years, has established the yearly Cornerstone Festival and the impressive Cornerstone Gallery, both of which have earned an international reputation for their excellence. In December 2009 the final phase of the development of the campus will be complete with a new Centre for Music, Performance and Innovation, which will incorporate specially designed Music Practice spaces, a 300 seat Performance Hall and dedicated space to support new creative/arts businesses.

Liverpool Hope was delighted to work closely with Milapfest as a supportive and generous contributor to it's highly successful 2008 International Youth Congress, The Big Hope, which was one of the City's most significant cultural events during its Capital of Culture year. Following on from this, Milapfest's 10 day Navratri Festival of Indian Dance and Music took place at the Cornerstone in October 2008, and more recently (from January 2009) an ongoing series of weekly workshops in Indian Music and Dance. Liverpool Hope is keen to continue in this vein developing new projects, initiatives and cultural events in collaboration with Milapfest.

Liverpool Philharmonic Hall

Liverpool Philharmonic HallMilapfest's Music for the Mind & Soul series took place for several years in the Grand Foyer, and later the Rodewald Suite at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. Special events and festivals take place at the venue, and even today the organisation supports Milapfest's ongoing activities with technical and event productions. "Opened on 27th August 1849, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall has long been an acclaimed and integral part of the cultural life of Liverpool, and was described as ‘the best in Europe' by Sir Thomas Beecham before being dramatically destroyed by fire in 1933. 75 years on from the fire, the present hall, designed by architect Herbert Rowse and opened in 1939, continues its established reputation as one of the UK's premier arts and entertainment venues, as both a concert hall and cinema."
