Bharatnatyam (Indian Dance)

Bharatnatyam was the first artform to be offered by Milapfest's Artschool, at The Cornerstone Building, Liverpool Hope University. Currently, we run weekend classes to people of all backgrounds, from beginners upwards.

Fees:

Fees can be paid by cash or cheque. The cheque must be payable to Milap festival Trust

Fees is accepted by term and must be paid on or before the third class.

Bharatnatyam Tutors:

Dr. Swati Raut

Dr. Swati  Raut trained in Bharatanatyam  and Mohiniattam at ‘Nrityashree’ in Mumbai,  and learnt from Krishnan Kutty Nair and Ammu Kutty. She is a leading choreographer, Dancer and Dance teacher from the Northwest of England.   She sits on the board for DIGM (Dance Initiative Greater Manchester) and is also a faculty member of the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance). She has been closely associated with Dance India and Milapfest activities for many years. She is also teaches Bharatanatyam to many children in Northwest. She is the Dance India Education programme coordinator this year.

Devika Rao

Devika Rao is an experienced dancer started learning Bharathanatyam from Guru Vidhwan Sri. K. Chandra Shekara Navada from 1989. Devika started teaching Bharathanatyam in 1999. She has over 15 years experience as an Yakshagana artist (traditional folk dance form in Karnataka). She also has over six years' teaching experience in Sridevi Nrithya Kala Kendra, Mangalore. She has performed more than 700 events all over India.Sh e currently teaches at Leeds and Liverpool and delivers workshops in many other cities. She has also appeared in major dance programmes  and festivals in many cities of Britain.
